Which one of the founders of Camp Fire (Girls) USA is in the Basketball Hall of Fame?
Luther Gulick , with his wife Charlotte Vetter Gulick, founded Camp Fire in 1910. Prior to that Gulick taught Physical Education at the college level in St. Louis, MO. He gave one of his students a homework assignment to develop a game that could be played in the winter, indoors and that emphasized physical skills and finesse more than strength. That student was James Naismith and his homework was the original concept for the game of basketball. Both Naismith and Gulick are honorees in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Among other accomplishments, Gulick also served on 2 Olympic Organizing Committees and founded the physical education program for the New York City public schools.
